Geocaching

I was bored, the weather was good, my bicycle beckoned, and my phone has GPS… this was the chain of causes for my attempt at geocaching today, and I’m very glad that all these things came together. Since I’m probably not best placed to try to explain something I’ve only just tried, I’ll let YouTube take over for a moment:

The only problem I can see with trying this in a busy city on a Saturday is that, well, it’s just a tiny bit odd to be walking around looking for hidden caches; the sort of behaviour that a policeman might quickly become interested in, and certainly not something I’ll be trying in the ‘Vigilis’ zones around the European Quarter.

Still, I got a chance to see the River Senne, Brussels almost forgotten river, running right through (though mainly under) the centre of the city (interesting to see fish in a river that was originally covered for being repulsive to the dwellers of the Lower Town—or keeping the property prices lower than the good citizens of the Upper Town would have liked, depending on your point of view), as well as the Hallepoort, and an amusing metal dog (which had the pleasure of witnessing my first find!). Altogether, a very nice day.
